What can the average citizen do about extremely loud noise from motorcycles?

I live in a rural area & love the peace & quiet. Yet there are some really loud motorcycles & I know this can’t be legal. What is the best way for me to do something. I hate to think about what their neighbors must go through.

A couple of things, develop better mufflers and fine the bikers if they rev up in quiet neighborhoods.

If you know, for sure, which bikes are making the (possibly) illegal noise, you can call the local cops and ask them to keep an eye out for those particular machines. If the police find that the exhause has been removed or modified, the riders could face citation for violation.

There isn’t much else you can do.

Sorry if the load pipes are attracting attention to the motorcycles traveling down the r___o____a______d. ummmm ahhhh You noticed the motorcycle because they have loud pipes mmmm you do understand that they have loud pipes so people in cars can hear them and not run them over killing the motorcyclist? Until people in cars stop killing the biker because "they didn’t see them" they MUST Be heard.

Sorry it does suck that you have hear them but we want to live.

Ask them nicely to not make noise when you are listening to nature’s songs… most will, and those who will not, let the sheriff deal with them. Remember, taking the law into your own hands is not only dangerous, it will cost you in ways you can never repay.

It depends on the laws of your state. Here in NJ, there are laws about the levels of "noise pollution" and also disturbing the peace. I suggest you check out the state laws where you live and see what they are. Here there are also laws about the music levels in cars that have the music too loud and especially with the loud music that makes your heart feel the boom noise. So call your local municipal building clerk and find out the laws concerning this for your state, Only then will you know what can been done about it, if anything. Good luck and I know exactly what you mean. Also check out the hours that would be disturbing the peace. Good luck with that.
BTW: You must have music and the noise down low enough to hear the police and EMT sirens and firetrucks. I would assume that this would be for all types of vehicles.

Residents of Denver have enjoyed a large reduction in the numbers of loud motorcycles for the past 2 1/2 years. The city enacted a motorcycle noise ordinance based on the EPA label system which is a federal law that can be adopted by states and cities. The city of Green Bay has had an EPA label based ordinance for about 1 1/2 years and it’s been effective there also. Boston enacted an EPA label ordinance on June 21.
