I have a 1964 Cushman Eagle Motor scooter I have restored and installed a Vanguard 2 cyl Engine, I am using the orginal 2 speed cushman Trans and centrifigal clutch, it leaves a little to be desired, I would like to install an older British motorcycle trans and clutch such as a Triumph or BSA etc. my question is the british bikes have a "wet" clutch and I was wondering if anyone knows if i can use "dry" friction plates ? The Cushman clutch is dry and has an open primary so if anyone knows british machines let me know what ya think…thanks
The reason for the "wet" clutch is that the clutch shares the engine case with the lower end of the engine and the tranny. Seems like a Harley-Davidson type clutch and trans set-up would work well for your Cushman, as they have a dry clutch and a separate transmission. BMW transmissions also use a dry clutch, but the shaft drive output would seem to complicate things even more.
