Yes you need a provisional and you need to take a theory test . but my advice is to call a bike school they keep you right. good luck mate

As stated you need a provisional licence before anything.
Enroll at a motorcycle training school/centre, they will hire you a scooter, bike or whatever you need, also including safety equipment. They will train you up to a standard to take your CBT
The test will be carried out on site.
After taking and passing your CBT you will be able to ride a 125cc bike on the road, you will also know by then if you like it, you may hate it.
CBT and training cost about £90, good luck!

Get on a bike and twist the throttle. You will find that you learn pretty fast, falling sucks.
