American sport bikes don't exist. Your best bet if you want to support the local economy is a Buell, but like other people said, they aren't sport bikes. The only other option that hasn't been mentioned is an MV Augusta, because they are currently owned by Harley Davidson. However they are still an Italian manufacturer and can be twice as expensive of their Japanese counterparts.
References :
Buell, Victory and Harly Davidson do not make sport bikes, except if you consider the HD V-Rod
References :
Buell

And to call it a "sport bike" is really loose. It's best described as a "streetfighter". Buell's are great on the streets, but so far, lacking at the racetrack.

Still, for the daily ride, Buell is the most fun motorcycle out there.

If you take your "sport" loosely, then you could also throw in Victory. Their Hammer S, although not sporty when it comes to corners, is a great street prowler.
References :
Own the Buell. The Hammer is just fun to look at.
